Pinky

Pinky was a 5-year-old male Domestic Shorthair cat that was shot by a gun and had a broken femur (upper leg bone). He had surgery with an external fixation device (pins that were placed through his skin into good bone and connected outside the leg with clamps and connecting rod to hold the other pins in alignment while the fracture healed).  This is a case of owner ingenuity in managing Pinky at home after the surgery.

Figures 1 and 2 show Pinky with a very large bandage in a large box set up at home.  Although this was convenient for the owners, Pinky was not adequately restrained.

Consequently, the owners purchased a used child playpen at a thrift store and devised a cover for it to keep Pinky confined within the playpen (Figures 3 through 6).

Once Pinky was “on the mend” with his external fixation device, he was allowed to “sleep in the shade” in the birdbath outside (Figures 7, and 8).  His fracture healed nicely and Pinky did very well.
